When putting
together an exercise program, nutrition is a big part of succeeding at your
weight loss goals. I do not offer nutrition programs because I am not a nutritionist
or registered dietician, however I do offer nutritional tips that will help
you succeed with your weight loss goals.
- Eat smaller meals 5
to 6 times throughout the day, rather than 3 big meals. Turning food into
fuel is hard work! Your digestion activity will increase and it will raise
your metabolism.
- Eat a lot of fruits
and vegetables, they are a nutrient dense food (a lot of nutrients, not
a lot of calories).
- Drink a lot of water.
A feeling of hunger may be your body telling you "I need water!".
If you are exercising you need to drink more than 64 oz of water every day!
- Avoid simple carbs.
What is an easy way to identify simple carbs? They are white. White bread,
white flour pasta, white rice, potatoes and sugar should be avoided. Eat
complex whole grain bread, pasta and rice instead.
- Avoid deep fried foods
- they have no nutritional value and a lot of saturated fat and calories.Grill,
bake or broil your food.
- Always
eat breakfast! Women especially, to maintain healthy levels of serotonin
( a brain chemical which affects our mood). Your first meal of the day should
include complex carbs and protein.
- Keep
a journal to track exactly what you are eating and when. Are you eating
because you are stressed, emotional or bored?
Eating
right is essential to any weight loss program. Your success in acheiving your
weight loss goals depends on proper nutrition.
