Hi I'm Christine Jeffers Chicago Fitness and Nutrition Consultant. I help baby boomers and special populations take control of their lives and get fit in the comfort of their own homes or offices with no expensive equipment necessary. I have been training for over 12 years and I have many success stories.
By using a combination of isometrics, corrective and pilates exercises with traditional movements, I will help you get a stronger core, lose weight, get stonger, all while protecting and stengthening your joints.
Prior to my career as a fitness professional, I spent 10 years in the printing industry as a graphic artist. While I suffered intensely from shoulder and lower back pain, I knew then a healthier career needed to be in my future.
Even though I was your typical weekend warrior, an avid runner and triathlete, spending 8 to 10 hours sitting at a desk was taking its toll on my health. With the emergence of the web (I could see the internet was going to slowly eliminate the printing business), the condition of my back and a car accident, which left me with a cracked pelvis, I decided to pursue a healthier career and went to school for shiatsu.
Well the rest is history, that was over 12 years ago and today I have extended my shiatsu career to include personal training, pilates and nutrition. During those 12 years I have been a 5K Race Director (Eric Elias Foundation 5K) and publisher of Chicago Wellness Magazine.
The magazine allowed me the wonderful opportunity to interview local health experts such as Laura Berman (Discovery Health Channel and Chicago based Sex Therapist), Earl Mindell, author of the vitamin bible and Karen Calabrese of Karyns Raw.
Most people think because I am a fitness and nutrition consultant I do nothing but exercise and eat vegetables all day. The truth is I love to eat tasty but not so healthy food. Some of my favorites are dessert (any type), cheese (any kind), Swirlz cupcakes, Pizano’s and Gino’s East pizza and beer (you can’t enjoy great pizza without beer!). Unfortunately my love for tasty, but not so healthy food has gotten me into trouble. I would watch my stomach bloat to three times its normal size and I would feel heavy and lethargic. Even my husband would ask “what is going on with your stomach?”
Well it turned out I have food sensitivities to gluten, sugar, MSG, food coloring (yellow to be exact), casein (a protein found in some dairy products) and some soy products. After hearing that, my first thought was “what am I going to eat?” and that’s the reason why you need to call me if you feel you might have a food allergy. I can help you discover all the choices available to those with food allergies. This doesn’t mean I never enjoy the food I love, or enjoy a cold beer at the Sox game on a hot summer day. I just have to watch what I eat, so I can enjoy the stuff I love once in a while.
After learning so much about food sensitivities, I decided to study nutrition at the Global College of Natural Medicine, and I became a nutrition consultant specializing in nutrient analysis and helping others discover food intolerances or sensitivities through safe elimination diets.
I help lead the Gluten Intolerance Group (GIG) Meeting at the South Loop Whole Foods every first Thursday of the month. If you think you have a gluten intolerance or sensitivity please come and join us for food tastings and informative discussions.
